Seamstress Sylvie Galant and her family--French-speaking Acadians wishing to remain neutral--are caught in the middle, their land positioned between two forts flying rival flags. Amid preparations for the celebration of Noël, the talk is of unrest, coming war, and William Blackburn, the British Army Ranger raising havoc across North America's borderlands.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i>As summer takes hold in 1755 and British ships appear on the horizon, Sylvie encounters Blackburn, who warns her of the coming invasion. Rather than participate in the forced removal of the Acadians from their land, he resigns his commission. But that cannot save Sylvie or her kin. Relocated on a ramshackle ship to Virginia, Sylvie struggles to pick up the pieces of her life. When her path crosses once more with William's, they must work through the complex tangle of their shared, shattered past to navigate the present and forge an enduring future.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><b>My Review:</b></div><div><div>I honestly wasn’t sure how much I would like <i>The Seamstress of Acadie</i>. I did end up getting back into the story and found it less sad as I went. I felt like the author did a good job portraying light in the midst of darkness. Then she receives a letter notifying her that she has been found through a DNA registry to be a direct descendant of King Maximillian V, the ruler of a small Eastern European principality called Montovia. She's understandably skeptical. This is the stuff of cheesy made-for-TV movies, not real life.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i>Although the pieces of this surprising family puzzle seem too good to be true, curiosity gets the best of her. Bertha’s love for baseball was fun too.</div><div>I enjoyed this book, but the ending was definitely sad then bittersweet. </div><div>This was my first book by this author. </div><div><br /></div><div><p class="p1" style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-feature-settings: normal; font-kerning: auto; font-optical-sizing: auto; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variation-settings: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;"><br /></p></div><div>**Thank you Revell for the book in exchange for my honest review </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div>RebekahAshleighhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02357042870422732001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105263151711654521.post-51728407700667802023-07-20T09:26:00.012-07:002023-07-21T09:30:22.004-07:00In the Shadow of the River // Book Review<div style="text-align: left;"> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVnjVlFwG7iYZYMoYIPLjv_fZWUGbzkp4yFsfhEF154CJIr-20NhxTrhbR9rXgUjGSQfRlaOOAX5GRJoj3aFQIZOV_rby9l3Ker_-nu9xz3PL7g2isedKCnZPZpuf5gRIMMJg8hunqt-YLsEUwdpP9-REBz5gw3oGpBdxr8dr8OAp53JqflTXC-hWqSow/s499/In%20the%20Shadow%20of%20the%20River.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="499" data-original-width="324" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVnjVlFwG7iYZYMoYIPLjv_fZWUGbzkp4yFsfhEF154CJIr-20NhxTrhbR9rXgUjGSQfRlaOOAX5GRJoj3aFQIZOV_rby9l3Ker_-nu9xz3PL7g2isedKCnZPZpuf5gRIMMJg8hunqt-YLsEUwdpP9-REBz5gw3oGpBdxr8dr8OAp53JqflTXC-hWqSow/s320/In%20the%20Shadow%20of%20the%20River.jpg" width="208" /></a></div><b>About the Book:</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div><i>If all the world's a stage, Jacci will play her part.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i>She only hopes her story does not turn out to be a tragedy.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i>In 1881, Jacci Reed is only five years old when a man attempts to kidnap her from the steamboat her mother, Irena, works on. Like I said, I enjoyed parts but it definitely isn’t a favorite. </div><div><br /></div><div>**Thank you to Revell for the book in exchange for my honest review</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div>RebekahAshleighhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02357042870422732001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105263151711654521.post-4285499048344194182022-12-09T08:45:00.003-08:002022-12-10T08:57:18.478-08:00Beneath the Bending Skies // Book Review<p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyeCAtW14-PQYAv4NyiiQiUEyXcB8EbWqT2AwDxTigs-Ht72rvpxTr2HQjuLafzT7OrkhltY3LMI5eF6BBHYd61LjWfw54xl9JvtQgkr_yyK22Q2k8BJpILmPs8DU0Ib-_rnQTydCx2VR3xRpXO1OhhQLzDTSjn1rkf0FobT8rb4M2wjMJgtvDMgtG/s499/beneath%20the%20bending%20skies.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="499" data-original-width="324" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyeCAtW14-PQYAv4NyiiQiUEyXcB8EbWqT2AwDxTigs-Ht72rvpxTr2HQjuLafzT7OrkhltY3LMI5eF6BBHYd61LjWfw54xl9JvtQgkr_yyK22Q2k8BJpILmPs8DU0Ib-_rnQTydCx2VR3xRpXO1OhhQLzDTSjn1rkf0FobT8rb4M2wjMJgtvDMgtG/s320/beneath%20the%20bending%20skies.jpg" width="208" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>About the Book:</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><i>Mollie Sheehan has spent much of her life striving to be a dutiful daughter and honor her father's wishes, even when doing so has led to one heartbreak after another. Lucie struggles to run Green Leaf Books due to oppressive German laws and harsh conditions, but she finds a way to aid the resistance by passing secret messages between the pages of her books.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i>Widower Paul Aubrey wants nothing more than to return to the States with his little girl, but the US Army convinces him to keep his factory running and obtain military information from his German customers. As the war rages on, Paul offers his own resistance by sabotaging his product and hiding British airmen in his factory. After they meet in the bookstore, Paul and Lucie are drawn to each other, but she rejects him when she discovers he sells to the Germans. And for Paul to win her trust would mean betraying his mission.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i>Master of WWII-era fiction Sarah Sundin invites you onto the streets of occupied Paris to discover whether love or duty will prevail.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><b>My Review:</b></div><div><div>Wow! I really enjoyed <i>Until Leaves Fall in Paris</i>! I think it’s my favorite book by Sarah Sundin so far. Not only is the cover beautiful but the story is so amazing! The storyline is really intriguing and interesting. I really liked Paul. His character was great and Lucie was great too. She did drive me slightly crazy at times in the beginning, but I understood why she was doing what she did but it was frustrating that she believed things people said instead of forming her own opinion. I liked her a lot better as the book went on.</div><div>Josie was a sweet character too. She was quite adorable. </div><div>Also, the main couple from Sarah Sundin’s previous book, <i>When Twilight Breaks</i>, made a brief appearance which was fun. </div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div>RebekahAshleighhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02357042870422732001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105263151711654521.post-62022857686114999172022-02-14T01:14:00.002-08:002022-02-14T01:14:00.162-08:00When Calls the Heart<div style="text-align: left;"> Happy Valentine's Day!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><div><br /></div><div>It wouldn’t quite be Valentines Day on my blog if I didn’t talk about When Calls the Heart ;)</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiz72RQUcgLEc7rxo2tN6FBBlp2U8PRNyGcRRQQ4XpTzv6aYj62zpJL39kMlGy-PYOpB3JpyfuZfo7DUxNLEpP3w9M6ZLrQEsPJLSuCA4xfRrn-MYXWLOTlQTwXDfIJKwIowJMoTvKV1wLUSoH-uW6bYEy5JSOzwkO_O_SbDb3EVOtxJGDvnFs0GkZY=s750" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="750" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiz72RQUcgLEc7rxo2tN6FBBlp2U8PRNyGcRRQQ4XpTzv6aYj62zpJL39kMlGy-PYOpB3JpyfuZfo7DUxNLEpP3w9M6ZLrQEsPJLSuCA4xfRrn-MYXWLOTlQTwXDfIJKwIowJMoTvKV1wLUSoH-uW6bYEy5JSOzwkO_O_SbDb3EVOtxJGDvnFs0GkZY=s320" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div>If you aren't caught up on the show, there will be some spoilers mentioned...</div><div><br /></div><div>Honestly season 8 kind of drove me crazy with how much Elizabeth kept going back and forth between Lucas and Nathan. While I am usually pretty sensitive to the topic of serial killers I wasn’t too worried because I read a series by a different author last year that dealt with a serial killer and had no problem with it.</div><div>Unfortunately I found <i>Life Flight</i> to be way too disturbing. Parts were definitely intriguing and I’d love to know how everything came into place but the serial killer parts were so sick and disturbing to me, to the point where I couldn’t think about the intriguing parts I could only think about the creepy parts. I really don’t enjoy reading into the mind of a serial killer or knowing details of what happened to a victim.</div><div>I do know this is a fictional story but stuff like this can happen and I enjoy reading fiction for enjoyment, so when a book makes me very creeped out/dwell on disturbing things I feel it’s time for me to walk away from a book and move on to something else.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>**Thank you to Revell for the book in exchange for my honest review</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div>RebekahAshleighhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02357042870422732001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8105263151711654521.post-31543014979429007302021-12-22T02:00:00.007-08:002021-12-22T07:25:56.513-08:00Favorite Christmas Movies <div style="text-align: left;"> Today I am going to be sharing 10 of my favorite Christmas movies!
